Synopsis:

American Cryptids tells the tale of two feuding families, one human, and one not. When an attempt at peace results in even greater bloodshed, both sides go into hiding, waiting to see what the other will do next. In a world of monsters, folk magic, and ghosts, can the youngest generation shake off the violence of their elders? Or is their fate written by bullets, fangs, and claws? Written by Joseph Zettelmaier, directed by Erynn Dalton.

Breakdown:

Johnny Carver (lead, mid-late 20s)

A graduate student. A good-natured goofball who moved far from his family (from Indiana to Florida) to get away from their isolated ways. He is in fact a cryptid, specifically a woodwose, as are all the Carvers. He comes unstrung after his father’s murder and begins to question his family’s seclusion and violence. Combat-fight training is a plus.

Kat Carver (lead, 25-35)

A park ranger. Johnny’s older sister. Very emotionally guarded and quick-witted. She doesn’t have much patience for idiocy. She’s still hurting from a tough break and it’s made her quick to distrust. She’s very close to her family, but after the murder of her father, she’s the first of them to choose revenge. Also a woodwose. Kat identifies as LGBTQ+ and Abbie is her ex-girlfriend.

Maya McClain (lead, 20-25)

Clayton Carver (lead, 40s-50s)

A pumpkin farmer. Uncle to Johnny and Kat, and younger brother to their father Mitchell. Clay is a jolly, plain-talking midwestern farmer who is very happy to live far off the beaten path. He dislikes conflict and is perfectly happy being by himself, unbothered by the rest of the world. The death of his brother wounds him deeply, but he’s torn between violence and going deeper into seclusion. Also a woodwose cryptid.

Abbie (supporting, 30-35)

A police detective. Kat’s former girlfriend. She still cares for Kat a lot and doesn’t reject her when Kat explains that she is actually a monster. However, Abbie couldn’t accept the violence that comes with being a cryptid trying to stay hidden. She’s still willing to risk her career to help Kat track down her father’s murderer.

Jill (supporting, mid-40s, early 50s)

Owns the farm adjacent to Clayton Carver's farm. Interested in being more than just neighbors with Clayton and not afraid to show it. Biting sense of humor, sassy.
